My Sick Little Man

I haven’t been posting enough pictures lately, so here is my Donovan to go with yesterday’s post. Daddy got the lucky task of taking the ladies to ballet this morning, so when he gets home, I’m sure Donovan will be able to muster a bigger smile!

Let me preface this post with this statement:

I am about to post about an night and a crazy week. So you will be asking yourself, “With all that going on, why the heck is wasting time on her blog?” And the answer, it is therapeutic. I need to write down my struggles the same as my joy… I think I can get through my day if I write it down, pray to God for strength for this day and just move on. Now, having written that down it sounds like I am about to say something truly awful and I’m not. I am in fact blessed beyond belief, and so now come to think of it I am going to turn what was going to be a list of bad things into good.

1. Alex may have been gone for much of the last 3 weeks, with more trips to come but he has a job! We can pay our bills. And barring airline delays like last week, I will be back in his arms tonight. Please God, no delays today. I need him.

2. My sweet little man Donovan got a bad fever last night and I searched the entire house for the brand new tylenol I just bought yesterday to finally find it as I was getting into my bed with him, having decided to ease his fevered body with holding him instead of medicine. So I did both. I may have been awake all night, but I got to watch his sweet face as he slept, how he hugs his blanket in the middle of the night, and sucks on his tongue instead of a pacifier or thumb.

3. Addison may have thrown up all over herself and bed in the middle of night, but it happened ten minutes after I took her back to her bed from mine. So you see, that grossness could have been all over me, Donovan and my bed.

4. I may have a ton of snow outside with more to come, but for right now the sun is shining and I am going to go stand at the window and just let it shine on my face for a minute.

5. I have to drive 30 minutes to go pick up Alex’s paycheck, but like I said, he has a job and is getting paid. I can feed my babies, and keep the heat on in our home.

6. I’m looking at blankets, toys, cereal bowl, my textbooks, socks, coloring books, Fisher Price farm animals, just to name a few and I have no time to clean it up. Hmmm…. having trouble finding the positive here….

7. I have my first big Art History Exam today, on no sleep, little review and no energy to do any review, but tomorrow it will be over and done with for better or worse. And with tomorrow comes ballet for my three ballerinas, something I look forward to all week long.

8. Alex may have another trip next week, and the next and the next, but for this weekend, we get our daddy and husband back.

9. February is a hard month for me. While I love Valentine’s Day, the month always holds the reminder of my son Alexander, who would be four years old now… Seems fitting that in the month of love I have a reminder of my little love waiting for me in Heaven.

10. Today may be hard. But I’m going to enjoy my blessings today, thanks to a complete stranger who reminded me to.

A Song About Me and Alex…. you know, in 50 years

Lee Brice, Love Like Crazy Lyrics

They called them crazy when they started out
Said seventeen’s too young to know what loves about
They’ve been together fifty-eight years now
That’s crazy

He brought home sixty-seven bucks a week
He bought a little 2 bedroom house on Maple Street
Where she blessed him with six more mouths to feed
Yea that’s crazy

Just ask him how he did it; he’ll say pull up a seat
It’ll only take a minute, to tell you everything
Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse I Love You
Go to work, do your best, don’t outsmart your common since
Never let your prayin’ knees get lazy
And love like crazy

They called him crazy when he quit his job
Said them home computers, boy they’ll never take off
He sold his one man shop to Microsoft
They paid like crazy

Just ask him how he made it
He’ll tell you faith and sweat
And the heart of a faithful woman,
Who never let him forget

Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse I Love You
Go to work, do your best, don’t outsmart your common since
Never let your prayin knees get lazy
And love like crazy

Always treat your woman like a lady
Never get to old to call her baby
Never let your prayin knees get lazy
And love like crazy

They called him crazy when they started out
They’ve been together fifty-eight years now

Aint that crazy?

January and a Smidge of December

Donovan was dedicated at church yesterday. Our fourth one, our last one. Alex and I both really enjoyed standing before the church professing our committment as parents to raise Donovan to be a Godly man someday. Pastor Jim gave us a verse for him. And oddly enough, the verse that he chose has a phrase from a song that I have been singing to Donovan in the kitchen for about 6 months whenever he’s snacking in his high chair and I am cleaning. Anyway, he chose it because Donovan means “delightful one, or one who delights.”

Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord your God is with you, he is mightsy to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

Isabella turned 7! I cannot believe I have a seven year old child! She loves school. Goes to school, comes home, immediately does her homework and then tries to get her sisters to play pretend school with her. Loves horses and got to ride one for her birthday at a local stable. She really enjoys ballet, reading, and if she finds out she is going to learn something new at school she wants me to teach it to her the night before so she is prepared and won’t have a chance of getting an answer wrong. She is still best friends with Layla and hopefully that will last until eternity. She currently has two top missing teeth and one on the bottom.

Addison turned 3!
Addison is so fun. She has a sweet little voice, still has really bad grammar and pronounces things funny, but we are working on it because we realize it won’t always be cute. She recently started ballet lessons and oh my… she is the cutest ballerina in the world. She follows her teacher around like a little puppy. As soon as we take the big girls to school at 9, she asks for lunch as soon as we pull in the driveway at 9:03. Asks for a snack about 500 times a day, is the tiniest, skinniest girl, hair is finally starting to thicken up and grow, she has what I call cartoon eyes because number one they are huge with big thick eyelashes but mainly because when she gets upset about something they literally fill halfway up with tears while other tears stream down her face. She is very cuddly, very sweet, stubborn, and if Mickey Mouse were real they would be best friends because she adores him and always wants to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Donovan had his first birthday!!! My little baby….sigh. He is now a full fledged walker. Loves his independence, already is eating me out of house, has the most hilarious laugh and if something strikes him as funny you can usually get him to do if for at least 10 minutes straight. When he wakes up he immediately throws everything out of his bed. Just started calling me “mama” with his lips all tucked in and it is SO cute! He is such a boy, he loves to crack his head on, well, anything, but thinks it is particularly funny to do it other people’s heads. I swear he walks around everyday with a concussion. He did find out that it isn’t so funny to do it on the kitchen floor though. He won’t eat anything in the morning until he has had a bottle of milk. His big sisters have never had a cross moment with him, even when he pulls their hair or headbuts them. He can do no wrong and they adore him.

In other news we took the kids sledding for the first time. You may be thinking, “Mari, how is that possible? Izzy is 7 and you haven’t been sledding before now? Well, no. I’m always pregnant in the Winter and Alex just never took the bigger kids by himself. They LOVED it! Except Donovan. Every time Addison would go down she would just remain on the inner tube and someone would pull her back up the hill. Halfway up she would say, “lets go again!” Of course she loved it, she never once got off her little snow pillow.

I hope you enjoy this post because I was just going over my homework for the week and I have about 150 pages to read for two different classes this week and it is just going to get worse as the semester goes on. So I may not be back on for a while.
